This little gem is often overlooked by passerby's and was actually closed for the first part of this semester due to some renovations. Tucked away behind the living room in the Sharwan Smith Center is this secret little hangout that is great for studying, shooting pool, and catching up on some TV.
The Birdhouse has a wall completely made of windows with two exits (just in case there is a fire). With naturally lighting, the birdhouse is an excellent choice if you need to read a chapter or two. The treasures of this secret spot also holds a ping pong table and a pool table.
The devices necessary to use these tables can be checked out with a student ID with the latest sticker on it (a sticker that means you have paid all of your dues or have made a payment plan) from the Student Involvement and Leadership Center. That is located right next to the Outdoor Engagement Center or across the hall from the SUUSA Offices. Renting them out is free because not only are you a student but you can't put a price on a good time. You can also rent them after 5 from the Facilities management which is located in the Sharwan Smith's Rotunda. 1st floor.
Lo and behold the crowning glory of The Birdhouse. Round-about seating around a giant screen TV. Perfect for football season and March Madness. The channel depends on the crowds but you could probably "persuade" people to watch what you want to watch. Electric reclining chairs with cup holders by some of the seats. I may or may not take naps on this beautiful, soft, reclining heaven.
So to study, get away from roommates, or even a place to catch a few Zzz's, The Birdhouse is a perfect little getaway while never leaving campus. See you there!
